Rumors have been swirling about Cameron Diaz’s recent absence from the big screen, but many fans have speculated that she was just taking a sabbatical from show businesses. But, in an odd turn of events, the rumors have been confirmed: everyone’s favorite romantic comedy actress is ‘actually retired’ from acting.
The 45-year-old FORMER actress reunited with her co-stars of “The Sweetest Thing,” Christina Applegate and Selma Blair, for an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
After reminiscing about their successful careers, the friendly trio pondered why they hadn’t hung out in nearly a decade. Applegate confirmed that she is “semi-retired” and that they should all hang out together more. Then, Diaz surprisingly responded by saying:
“That’s so awesome. I’m totally down. I’m semi-retired, too, and I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies.”
The ET interview wasn’t the first time that the “Charlie’s Angels” star has been rumored to have thrown in the metaphorical acting towel. According to Blair, in an interview with Metro News UK, Diaz had told her of her plans to retire during a recent lunch date. The interviewer then questioned Blair about a potential “The Sweetest Thing” sequel, prompting the actress to say that she would love to, “but Cameron’s retired from acting. She’s like ‘I’m done.’”
Blair has since retracted her statements about Diaz’s alleged retirement, tweeting out:
📠📺☎️👩🏻🏫 BREAKING NEWS 🚨🚨🚨. Guys please, I was making a joke in an interview. CAMERON DIAZ is NOT retiring from ANYTHING. And for more breaking news: I am NOW retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson. 🎙

Whatever the case, Cameron has not appeared in a film since her 2014 role of in the remake of the famous musical “Annie,” leading fans across the world to believe that she may actually be done for good.
Diaz got her big break in Hollywood all the way back in 1994 as Jim Carrey’s love interest in “The Mask.” She continued her on-screen success from there with films like “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “There’s Something About Mary.” But it wasn’t until her voice acting role as Princess Fiona in the animated hit, “Shrek,” that really solidified Diaz’s stardom.
Off the set, the award-winning actress has been well-known for her high-profile relationships. She used to date her “There’s Something About Mary” co-star, Matt Dillon, and has had ties to actor/singer, Jared Leto. On top of that, she has also had long-term relationships with entertainer Justin Timberlake and polarizing athlete, Alex Rodriguez.
But, in 2015, Diaz finally settled down with former Good Charlotte frontman, Benji Madden. Even though the actress has been noted as being a strong proponent against marriage, something must have clicked with Madden as they got married only two months after they met (and had a hasty engagement of only 17 day)!
Whether the retirement rumor is true, or just hearsay, Diaz has had a stellar career in the film industry. From her typical less-than-entertaining romantic comedies, to her surprising roles in movies such as “Gangs of New York”, we applaud Cameron for having a broad range of skills in front of the camera. Unfortunately, the beautiful blonde may soon retire into obscurity, but she will go knowing that she left her fans with her stunning lucks, and plenty of laughs!
