Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have split after only 15 months of marriage. The 30-year-old actress filed for divorce on Monday citing the standard irreconcilable difference and requesting spousal support. Heard listed their date of separation as Sunday. Depp, 52, filed his own documents on Wednesday and asked the judge to reject Heard’s request for support.
Depp is worth around $400 million and owns his own private island in The Bahamas. The couple reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement. Yikes!
It seems pretty cold that Amber would file for divorce two days after Johnny’s beloved mother, Betty Sue Palmer, died on Friday, May 20.
There have been rumors previously that the couple were having marital problems. Depp and Heard have not been photographed together in public since April.
Johnny and Amber were married on the beach of the actor’s private island, Little Hall’s Pond Cay, last year with just 24 guests in attendance. The beach ceremony came one year after they revealed they were engaged. They have no children together. They were legally married in Los Angeles first so his ailing mother could attend.
The couple first met when they starred together in the 2009 movie, “The Rum Diary.”
Depp later admitted he realized he had fallen for the pretty actress and tracked her down. Depp was still with his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, and he later stated that his relationship with Heard did not begin until after he and Paradis separated in 2012. Johnny and Vanessa have two children together – daughter Lily-Rose, 16, and son Jack, 13.
He was previously married to Lori Anne Allison for two years until 1985. He also had a long-term relationship with model Kate Moss.
Amber, who has openly stated she is bi-sexual, was previously in a long-term romance with photographer Tasya van Ree.
Depp’s latest character, the Mad Hatter, hits the screen in the sequel “Alice Through the Looking Glass” on Friday.
