Colton Haynes, who became a teen heartthrob after his roles in the television show “Teen Wolf” and “Arrow”, has revealed his big secret. Haynes has finally revealed that he is gay after hiding his sexuality in order to build his career in Hollywood.

Haynes revealed that he had “terminal anxiety” over holding in the secret. He explained, “People want you to be that GQ image that you put out, but people don’t realize what it’s like to act 24 hours a day. I’d go home and I was still acting. People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world.”

The 27-year-old began his career as a model at age 15 and his chiseled good looks and rugged stature soon translated to acting with small roles in TV shows and movies before landing the life-changing gig of Jack Whittemore in MTV”s “Teen Wolf in 2011.

He went on to star in Arrow before backing taking a break out of the public eye for a while. He explained, “I asked to step away because I cared more about my mental and physical health than my career at the time. I’ve had terminal anxiety my entire life. Physically ill, fainting. I’m 27 years old, and I have an ulcer. I had to step back.”

In January, he stirred up controversy when he responded to a Tumblr post from a fan about his ‘secret gay past.’

Colton commented, “Was it a secret? It was a complete shock. I wasn’t ready to be back in the headlines.”

The actor had never publicly mentioned his sexuality after being advised early on in his career to keep it hidden. But he didn’t hide the fact that he was gay from his family, friends and co-workers.

Haynes admits he now feels he should have spoken out earlier and that he may have let people down by remaining silent. The truth was, he says, he just wasn’t ready to ‘come out’ in public at that time.

Colton adds, “I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and healthier than I’ve ever been, and that’s what I care about.”
