Celine Dion has described last moments with her husband of 21 years, Rene Angelil, before he passed away in January. The singer tried to assure her husband that everything would be fine.
Celine told her ailing husband not to worry anymore and to go in peace. Celine recalled telling Rene, “You were worrying for my career. You were worrying for the children. You were worrying for everything. It’s enough. Do you trust me? Please do. Trust me.”
Angelil, 73, was Celine’s longtime manager and the father of their three sons.
The Grammy-winning singer described how Rene passed away and she covered him with a robe and stayed in bed with him for a bit.
Dion shared how she explained the death to her six-year-old twins – Nelson and Eddy -and 15-year-old Rene-Charles.
Celine Dion explained Rene’s passing with her young children using the 2009 Disney movie, “Up”. She said the children loved the film and they discussed how Ellie went up with the balloons. The singer explained to her children that their Papa was gone and that today Papa went up.
The “Power of Love” singer said she took her boys outside to spread what she called ‘pixie dust’ and release balloons into the sky.
She recalled telling her sons that they were going to tell their Papa they loved him and to “have a good up.” They spread the ‘pixie dust’ to go up to Rene.
Dion wants to show her children that she is strong and live by Rene’s wish that the “show must go on.”
The 48-year-old singer admits she lost the love of her life and misses him. But realizes he was suffering and could not be selfish. She stated she now feels at peace.
Celine will perform at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards where she is going to be honored with the Icon award. She is set to cover Queen’s hit song, “The Show Must Go On.”
Celine met Rene in 1980 when she was only 12-years-old and he was 38. They began a relationship in 1987 and became engaged in 1991. They were married in 1994.
Rene died on January 14 after a lengthy battle with throat cancer.
