A gestational carrier is often used if a woman is unable to carry the baby herself. The surrogate in implanted with an embryo created usually by in vitro fertilization (IVF) and unrelated to the baby she carries.

Lucy keeps her love life on the down-low, but has been romantically linked in the past to Noam Gottesman, actor Will mcCormack, and writer-film director Zach Helm.
