It appears James Franco is about to finally “become a man”, with pal Seth Rogen throwing him a Bar Mitzvah.
The 33-year-old actor revealed he is throwing the ceremony for his ‘The Interview’ co-star at his fourth annual Hilarity for Charity event.
Seth and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, will have the event on October 17, 2015 to help raise money for Alzheimer’s research.
In a statement, the funnyman said, “Ever since I’ve known James, he’s been talking about wanting a Bar Mitzvah.
”We’re excited to see him finally become a man while also helping us raise awareness and funds for people living with Alzheimer’s and towards research that will lead to a cure. And in celebration we’ll also have a mohel and a live bris for James at the event.”
Franco previously told The Wall Street Journal at a Gucci event, revealing his mother is Jewish.
James said, “I really want a bar mitzvah, ’cause I never had one. And we should get some Gucci yarmulkes for it. We should do those. Those’ll be next.”
Last year’s prom-themed show featured appearances from Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Rudd, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Sarah Silverman.
They raised $1 million for the charity, which works to inspire change and raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease among young people.
Seth and Lauren set up the organisation after her mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s at age 55.
Lauren stated, “Five million Americans are currently living with the disease and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., yet it is the least funded and the only one with no treatment whatsoever. I hope we’re able to capture the attention of more young people, and get the disease the type of funding it deserves.”
