That seems a little ungrateful, huh? The rapper expressed her anger on social media, appearing to take aim at Taylor Swift (who also responded). Yikes!
Nicki had hoped her video for Anaconda or her Beyonce collaboration video for Feeling Myself would have been nominated in the video of the year category.
Nicki started her rant by writing, “When the “other” girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.”
She argued that ‘if she was a different ‘kind’ of artist, the Anaconda video featuring scantily-glad girls and clenching buttocks would have received nominations, for choreography and, more importantly, for the awards show’s most prestigious gong.
Taylor led the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations with nine nods. Seven of those were for Bad Blood.
Minaj also pointed out that Ellen DeGeneres had spoofed the Anaconda video and that it has been viewed almost half a million times on Vevo.
The rapper has received tons of awards, but has never been nominated for VMA’s Video Of The Year.
In 2011, she won Best Hip-Hop Video for Super Bass and in 2012 she won Best Female Video with Starships.
Nicki’s Twitter rant appeared to single out Taylor Swift.
One of her tweets that blasted MTV stated, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year”.
Taylor actually responded to Nicki, writing, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
Nicki denied the tweet was aimed at Taylor, responding, “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.”
The rapper then followed up with another comment in response to Ryan Seacrest’s coverage of their online feud, hitting back, “Nothing I said had to do with Taylor. So what jabs? White media and their tactics. So sad. That’s what they want.”
Wow! Really? White media?
The Super Bass rapper made her feelings known by retweeting her fans messages, some of which clearly targeted at Taylor.
She re-tweeted one that stated, “@Taylorswift stop using “support all girls” as an excuse to not be critical of racist media that benefits and glorifies you”.
Taylor attempted to smooth things over by offering to share her moment in the spotlight if she wins the award. She tweeted, “If I win, please come up with me!! You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on”.
This is so silly.
