Jimmy Kimmel fought back tears during his opening monologue last night, blasting the Minneapolis dentist who hunted and killed Cecil the lion.
Kimmel, who is not a noted animal rights activist, took aim at Dr. Walter Palmer for killing the beautiful creature for sport.
Jimmy blasted the dentist, questioning his motives to desire to kill the lion in the first place.
The late night host stated, “The big question is: why are you shooting a lion in the first place? I’m honestly curious to know why a human being would feel compelled to do that. How is that fun?
“Is it that difficult for you to get an erection that you need to kill things that are stronger than you? If that’s the case, they have a pill for that. It works great.
“Just stay home and swallow it, and you save yourself a lifetime of being the most hated man in America who never advertised Jell-O pudding on television”.
Kimmel told the audience that Dr. Palmer went on a guided bow hunting trip for big game in Zimbabwe earlier this month and ended up killing Cecil the lion.
In a statement released through his representative Tuesday, the 55-year-old dentist claimed that he had no idea that the lion he ‘took’ was part of a study until the end of the hunt.
The Minnesota man put the blame on his local guides.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! star clarified that he does not oppose hunting on principal if it is handled responsibly to provide sustenance, or to keep the animal population healthy.
He added, “But if you’re some a-hole dentist who wants a lion head over his fireplace in his man-cave so his douchebag buddies can gather around it and drink Scotch and tell him how awesome he it, that’s just vomitous”.
Kimmel than showed a collection of photos depicting Dr Palmer posing with his other wildlife trophies.
The photos included “trophies” such as another lion, a bear, a leopard and a rhino.
Kimmel quipped, “He killed like half of Noah’s Ark”.
He concluded, “If you want to make it into a positive… maybe we can show the world that not all Americans are like this jackhole here”.
Other celebrities took to social media expressing their outrage at the big game hunter for luring out and gunning down Cecil.
Comedian and animal rights activist Ricky Gervais also weighed in on the issue, posting a tribute to the slain lion on his Twitter page.
Zimbabwean authorities said Palmer, who has a felony record in the US related to shooting a black bear in Wisconsin, is being sought on poaching charges.
Local conservationists said the American allegedly paid $50,000 for the trip that resulted in Cecil’s death.
