The Foo Fighters have been forced to cancel their headlining show at the Glastonbury Festival and the remainder of their European tour after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg during their show in Sweden on Friday.
Fans will be disappointed, but Grohl is recuperating after having surgery and six metal pins inserted in his leg from the injury.
The singer was injured in a horrific fall from the stage during a gig in Gothenberg, Sweden on Friday, but made headlines after carrying on with the show after the injury.
Dave, who also dislocated his ankle, wrote a long message to fans on their official website, posting X-rays of his injuries before and after surgery.
He wrote, “Here’s the not so witty bit… My doctors have advised me to lay low for a while. The most important thing now is for me to recover from the surgery, to keep my leg elevated so as to keep swelling down and prevent any infection/complication that could do long term damage. I’m not out of the woods yet, folks…
“Which means, and it kills me to say it… the doctors have told us to cancel shows. I’m really so sorry, guys. You know I hate to do it, but I’m afraid it’s just not physically possible for me at the moment. We’re doing our best right now to work out a plan, so bear with us. You know we’re good for our word. But for now, I need to make sure we have YEARS of gigs ahead of us…
“You have always stood by our band, and we will always stand by you. Like I say at every show, we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you guys. And I mean that. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. And I will do everything I can to come back and give you a night to remember for the rest of your lives AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.”
Grohl tumbled during the second song of the Foo Fighters Sweden show and badly injured himself.
After the fall, Grohl told the audience, “Hey, ladies and gentlemen, I love you too motherf******. Now look I think I just broke my leg. I think I really broke leg.”
Medical professionals attended to Dave’s injury, while the rest of the band played and the drummer filled in as singer.
After having his leg bandaged, Dave returned to the stage and finished the concert sitting in a chair. He told the audience, “I may not be able to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream”.
Grohl continued the concert while seated with his broken leg elevated.
