Dick Van Patten has passed away at the age of 86 at Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California, due to complications from diabetes.
The actor is best known for playing Tom Bradford in the television show Eight Is Enough, also appearing on Spaceballs.
Van Patten started his showbiz career on the Broadway stage in a production of Tapestry in Grey at the tender age of seven.
He later switched to television, after landing a role in the comedy drama I Remember Mama.
Most of us remember the actor as the family patriarch Tom Bradford in the television show Eight Is Enough, which ran from 1977 to 1981.
Van Patten also starred on The Love Boat, The New Dick Van Dyke Show, The Six Million Dollar Man, and on Happy Days.
During his career, he performed on Broadway almost 30 times and appeared in comedy movies, such as Spaceballs.
Dick Van Patten, who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, released an autobiography titled Eighty Is Not Enough in 2009.
His rep confirmed the sad news of his passing, stating, “I am sorry to report this sad news. His family will not be doing any press at this time.”
