Betsy Palmer, the veteran character actress who is probably best known as the mother of Jason Voorhees’ mother on “Friday the 13th”, has passed away at age 88.
Palmer died on Friday of natural causes at a hospice facility in Connecticut.
Betsy appeared on many television shows, films, and on Broadway before taking the role as Mrs. Voorhees in the campy cult classic horror film.
The 1980 movie featured Betsy as the mother of Jason Voorhees, who had died at the camp years before. He would come to life in several sequels later.
Betsy later revealed she took the role in the movie because she had her eye on a new car.
She said her original thought on the movie role after reading the script was, “What a piece of shit! Nobody is ever going to see this thing. What an awful thing this is.”.
Palmer went on to embrace the role and appreciated the horror fans and felt she loved now being known as the “slasher queen”.
