Former Creed frontman Scott Stapp had fans thinking he had lost his mind after his bizarre antics in December 2014.
The singer now reveals he suffered a psychotic episode, stemming from drug and alcohol abuse. Stapp is now being treated for bipolar disorder.
The singer made headlines in December after bizarre 911 calls fearing for his family’s safety.
Stapp, who is now in treatment, revealed, “I had a psychotic break that was brought on by alcohol and drug abuse”.
The 41-year-old singer admitted, “I was hallucinating. I drove around the United States for a month, following an angel that I saw on the hood of my car. In my delusional thinking, I thought my family was involved in ISIS, and that millions of dollars had been taken from me to support terrorism. All of it was nonsense. I was out of my mind.”
Thankfully, Stapp finally got help and entered rehab for drug and alcohol abuse.
He said, “It was hard to process. There’s a stigma associated with it. But [my wife] Jaclyn kept telling me, ‘Embrace it. We love you.’ It became a big sign of relief, because finally, we had an answer”.
Jaclyn, who married the singer in 2006, said that when she heard the diagnosis that it “made sense”.
She said, “I definitely knew there was something going on for years, but I couldn’t pinpoint what it was”.
Stapp is now in a 12-step recovery program and has a sponsor. Scott is also taking medication for his bipolar disorder.
Scott and Jaclyn are now back together. The couple have two children – daughter Milan, eight, and son Daniel, four. The singer also has teenage son Jagger from his first marriage.
We are happy to see he finally is receiving treatment.
