Good Times actor Ben Powers dead at 64

Ben Powers, best known for his role as Keith Anderson on the CBS sitcom “Good Times” in the late 1970s, had passed away at the age of 64.  No cause of death was listed.

Power starred as the football player husband of Thelma Evans, who was played by BerNadette Stanis on the popular television series.

In reaction to his passing, Stanis wrote on Facebook, “My condolences goes out to the family of Ben Powers who past a few days ago. He was a great actor and great friend who is gone too soon. He will be missed by many. Until next lifetime my friend.”

Powers also played the character Moochie on another CBS series The New Mike Hammer that starred Stacey Keach. He also appeared in guest roles in the series Gimme A Break, The New Odd Couple, The Great American Hero, and Laverne & Shirley.

Powers’ movie resume included Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie, Things Are Tough All Over and The Man Who Loved Women.

Alton A. “Ben” Powers born in Brooklyn, NY on July 5, 1950 and was raised in Providence, RI where he sang in his church choir and later attended the Rhode Island School of Design.

Ben started his career singing and doing impressions in stand-up comedy routines, before being discovered by a Hollywood agent.

Powers passed away April 6 in New Bedford Mass., survived by his mother and two sisters, along with several nieces, and nephews.

A memorial is planned for May 3 in Providence.
