Welsh actor Jonathan Pryce previously declared it was not “necessary” for him to marry Kate Fahy, insisting they would only walk down the aisle for tax reasons.
The actor, who joined the HBO series Game of Thrones in Season 5, exchanged vows in a secret and low-key ceremony.
An insider revealed, “They tied the knot recently, without any fuss. Only close family members and friends know about it.”
Pryce and Fahy, who share three children, became involved after starring opposite one other in a 1972 play. Both were married to other people at that time and divorced their partners to begin their relationship.
Jonathan previously said, “I’d been married for nearly three years and was very happy. But two weeks after I met Kate, I left my wife and she left her husband. It really was just this extraordinary meeting.”
Pryce walked out on his wife, a teacher, days after meeting Fahy.
The 67-year-old Welshman, who played the father of Keira Knightley’s character in the Pirates Of The Caribbean films, previously didn’t plan to get married.
In 2010, Pryce was asked why he’d not married Fahy. He said, “It wasn’t necessary. I can’t imagine what life would be if I hadn’t met Kate at that time. We’re both actors and often that mitigates against a good relationship, but we have a great understanding of each other’s needs.”
The actor plays the role of The High Sparrow in Season 5 of Games of Thrones.
He previously admitted he took the role because of how influential the character is plot-wise. He was skeptical at first about “sword and sorcery” type shows, but had a change of heart after his experiences on the Game of Thrones sets.
Pryce has previously starred in films such as Evita, Tomorrow Never Dies, Pirates of the Caribbean, The New World, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and GI Joe: Retaliation.
His has also had a successful career in theater and has won two Tony Awards—the first in 1977 for his Broadway debut in Comedians, the second for his 1991 role as The Engineer in the musical Miss Saigon.
