TODAY’s Willie Geist sat down with Ryan Reynolds to talk about the actor’s film, “Woman in Gold,” and the new dad laughed off the huge mystery surrounding his daughter’s name.
We reported in February that Blake Lively and Ryan had named their daughter James, but this is the first time he has “officially” confirmed the name publicly. All we can think about while watching the video is that Ryan is ridiculously good-looking!
Ryan, 38, who tied the knot with 27-year-old actress Blake in 2012, chatted with Today show as he promoted his latest movie.
The interviewer asked about the name of the baby. Geist said, “You did say a few months ago, before she was born, that you were going to name her Excalibur Anaconda Reynolds. So can we call her Anna at least — short for Anaconda?”
“That is not the child’s name,” Reynolds deadpanned. “It’s Butternut Summersquash.”
Ryan then got serious adding, “It’s James”.
It’s obvious the actor finds it ridiculous the entire world has been acting as if name is a huge mystery. He adds, “Everyone knows and I told everyone who would listen that.”
Reynolds said of his reluctance to broadcast his daughter’s name on television, saying, “Before it was out there I didn’t want to be the first guy screaming it out to the media because as we know, little girls turn into teenage girls and little teenage girls sometimes scan through the archives and go, ‘Why did you do that?'”
Some may think of James as a traditionally masculine name, but it’s actually long been used for both boys and girls.
It sounds as if baby James may be the first of several children for the beautiful couple. Last August, BLake told Marie Claire, “If I could spit out a litter of kids, I would.”
Ryan agreed, adding in his Details interview, “We’d love to have a big family.”
So there we have it folks! It’s official and everyone can go back to their daily lives now.
