Kathy Griffin, who is known for being outspoken and making crass comments, has now announced she is also leaving E!’s Fashion Police.
The 54-year-old comedienne announced her abrupt departure via a lengthy letter posted on Twitter, leaving just after her co-host Kelly Osbourne quit.
Kelly Osbourne left the celebrity fashion critic show following controversy over Giuliana Rancic’s comments during the Oscars about actress Zenday’s dreadlocks.
It seems a bit absurd, especially after the show is known for making cruel comments especially with the late Joan Rivers was at the helm.
Griffin seemed so excited to be asked to be Joan’s replacement on the show, after Rivers’ death last September.
In her letter, Kathy explained, “When I chose to step into the shoes of my beloved friend Joan River at Fashion Police, I was thrilled to continue her legacy as a woman being brash and eccentric on television. I am a freedom loving female and gay rights activist who loves to find the funny in all people, attitudes, beliefs, and appearances, but only when the context permits intelligent humor.”
Kathy adds, “I thought that I could bring my brand of humor to Fashion Police so that beautiful people in beautiful dresses could be teased when appropriate. My brand of humor, while unrepentant and unafraid, is all about CONTEXT. There is plenty to make fun of in pop culture without bringing people’s bodies into it. Again people… context! Listen, I’m no saint – I’m a feminist AND a Gurrrrl who loves an offensive joke or a well-timed barb and you will find plenty in my repertoire. But I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards difference. (sic)”
Griffin indicated that she had no hard feelings towards her co-stars, writing, “I wish E! and the E! team only the best….”
The show will continue with Giuliana and Brad Goeski, the network said in a statement.
The statement reads, “‘We can confirm that Kathy Griffin is leaving E!’s Fashion Police. We wish her all the best and are grateful for her time on the show, as well as the many laughs that she gave us all. Fashion Police will return, as scheduled, on Monday, March 30, at 9 p.m. with our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, and executive producer Melissa Rivers. No further information is available at this time.”
Zendaya’s dreadlocks looked adorable and it was only a joke. We’ve heard much worse come out of fashion critics’ mouths in the past. They are seriously making a mountain out of a molehill.
