Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have finalized their divorce, ending their 10-year marriage.
The couple’s marriage is officially over, after separating last December.
Taye filed the documents for divorce in November in New York.
The divorce proceedings went quickly and quietly, with the divorce being finalized on December 3, after they came to an agreement on issues such as custody of their son.
The Baggage Claim actor and “Let It Go” singer have tried to remain on good terms for the benefit of their five-year-old son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs.
The Rent co-stars tied the knot in January 2003, after having met on the set of the original Broadway version of the show.
Diggs told Redbook magazine he knew it would be difficult for the fans but insisted that their main priority was their young son.
The actor said, “I’d be lying if I said there weren’t times when I thought, ‘Oh, man, people are going to trip out [if we split] .’ Maybe they thought it was cute that we met in Rent.
“There weren’t a lot of couples like us in the theatre community – and I know there aren’t a lot of performers as talented as she is … and then you have the whole mixed [race] thing. It was easy for people to root for us. Right now, we’re still trying to figure out a lot of stuff because we’re on different coasts and our son is getting older.”
Taye has since moved on and is dating Amanza Smith Brown, with whom he made a red carpet appearance at the BET Awards in LA in the summer.
Just before their split, Idina revealed the couple’s marriage was not always easy.
She said, “We work at it. I’m not going to glamorise it or glorify it – we go through tough times like everybody else. But we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time, and we try to find new ways to communicate”.
Idina has had a big year 2014, following the success of Frozen and its Oscar award-winning song Let It Go.
Menzel was also recently named the Breakthrough Artist at Billboard’s Women of the Year 2014 awards, and she also announced that she will embark on her first global tour in 2015.
Idina Menzel performed her hit “Let It Go” in Times Square on Wednesday night for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” and it’s gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
The singer tried to hit a high note that left us cringing.
