Kelly Rowland’s mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, passed away Tuesday in Atlanta after going into cardiac arrest the previous day. She was 66.
The former Destiny Child star confirmed the sad news in a statement.
Rowland Garrison suffered a heart attack on Monday December 1 and passed away early Tuesday morning.
Kelly’s publicist confirmed the sad news, issuing a statement saying, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison. She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman—and now mother—I am today. We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
Her mother’s passing comes just weeks after the singer gave birth to son Titan Jewell Weatherspoon, her first child with hubby Tim Weatherspoon.
Titan Jewell Witherspoon was born on November 4 at around 1:30 P.M. and weighed 7.5 pounds.
Kelly Rowland was very close to her mother, penning a letter to her mother in 2008 on Mother’s Day.
The “Motivation” singer reflected on her childhood memories of her mother encouraging her to sing and also doing her very best to balance her family responsibilities along with her demanding job.
Kelly wrote, “You’d look at me like I was the sun and the moon and say, ‘Sing up, baby…a little louder.’ It meant so much that you believed in me. When we had rough times in Houston, you did your best to balance our family with your job as a live-in nanny.”
Doris Rowland Garrison passed away at age 66, days before her birthday on Saturday.
Doris is survived by a son Orlando and daughter Kelly.
