Sugarhill Gang’s Henry ‘Big Bank Hank’ Jackson has died at the age of 57.

The band’s manager, David Mallie, confirmed the sad news and revealed Jackson died from kidney complications due to cancer.

Mallie revealed, “[Wonder Mike and Master Gee] had been in contact with him in the past year. They had some great times and created history.”

The former band members expressed their condolences, stating, “So sad to hear of our brother’s passing. Rest in peace Big Bank”.

The Sugarhill Gang popularized rap music with the hit single “Rapper’s Delight” in 1979.

Big Bank Hank was also known as Imp the Dimp. His group The Sugarhill Gang was the first hip hop act to have a hit single, “Rapper’s Delight” in 1979.
