Is That Really You Jake Gyllenhaal? Actor Ripped In “Southpaw” Photo

Jake Gyllenhaal looks very different

Jake Gyllenhaal is an awesome actor that is known for going all in for his roles that include incredible physical transformations.

Jake dropped 30 pounds last year to play a sociopath in “Nightcrawler”, but now is nearly unrecognizable as a boxer in “Southpaw”.

The 33-year-old plays a championship middle weight boxer in The Weinstein Company’s upcoming production, “Southpaw”.

We honestly wouldn’t have known it was him from seeing the new photo.

Jake lost a whopping 30 pounds to play Lou Bloom in “Nightcrawler” last year, using a strict calorie-counting diet.

Now Gyllenhaal has bulked up to gain 15 pounds of muscle to play the role of Bill “The Great Hope” in the boxing flick.

“Southpaw” is a movie written by “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter and directed by Antoine Fuqua.  The movie is about a left handed boxer who stages a comeback from personal tragedy.

The Oscar-nominated actor was shown in a shirtless photo that highlights his ripped and tattooed torso. Once again…an amazing transformation!

Director Fuqua told Deadline, “Jake is going to change how people see him. I had him training twice a day in the boxing ring, he did two-a-days seven days a week. I pretty much had him with me and my trainer every day. I took him to almost every fight. I had him train at Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Vegas and we watched Floyd’s fights, and the Manny Pacquiao fight.”

Fuqua adds, “He trained in New York at Church Gym with real fighters. We literally turned him into a beast. Jake, my God, he’s a very electric, powerful fighter in this movie, and a guy who fights for his daughter. I’m confident that this will change how people see Jake, as a leading man.

“He was training like a fighter. I had him sparring, really getting hit. I put him in situations where I wanted to see what he was made of. No one but fighters understand the sacrifice it takes to be a fighter.”

“Southpaw” is set for release next year.
