Technology and social media have taken the personal touch out of communication these days, even during the holidays!

Most of us are so busy that we text or send someone an online message rather than mail a letter or call them on the phone. Check out actress Kristen Bell’s collaboration with Straight No Chaser entitled “Text Me Merry Christmas”.

The song “Text Me Merry Christmas” is a witty and funny (but also a bit sad) holiday song that was premiered on

The “Frozen” actress sings the lines, “This holiday / You’ll be far away /And I’ll be all alone.  So please remember / This December / To fully charge your phone.”

The A cappella group then comes in to provide the backing harmonizing on the second verse before Michael Luginbill takes the lead. “Text me Merry Christmas / Make my holiday complete / Though you’re far from me / Say you’ll brb / That’s a text I’ll never delete.”

Randy Stine told Ryan Seacrest, “We wanted a Christmas song that spoke to how informal communication has become. As soon as we heard the first demo it was apparent that it had to be a duet … the only voice we heard singing this was Kristen Bell and she nailed every note and delivered the lyrics with the perfect comedic tone. We were hanging on her every word… when we weren’t looking at our phones.”

In May, SNC set out to record a Christmas song and with the help of Oscar-nominated composer Adam Schlesinger and 13-time Emmy winner (and comedy writer) David Javerbaum, “Text Me Merry Christmas” was wrapped up like a gift under the tree by July.

The demo was immediately sent to Kristen … and within hours, she replied back with an enthusiastic ‘Yes!’ that she was in on the project.

Bell said, “Text Me Merry Christmas” was so much fun to record. The lyrics are smart and creative and musically it was a blast to sing a cappella with Straight No Chaser. I’m excited to be a part of what could be a Christmas classic for our current generation.”
