Sad news tonight, with reports confirming that Static X frontman, Wayne Static, has died at the age of 48.
No details of his death were given, but many of his friends appear to believe he died of a drug overdose.
The Static-X frontman’s death was reported in a press statement by his representatives at FIXT Publicity.
The statement reads, “Wayne Static was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X. [He] later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months.”
Wayne’s death comes just days before his 49th birthday on Nov. 4.
The rocker, who was born, Wayne Richard Wells, is known for his crazy hairstyle and long ponytail beard. He previously revealed it takes 20 minutes to style his vertical ‘do.
Wayne confirmed that Static-X had disbanded in June 2013. The band disbanded after disputes between Wayne and the band’s former bassist Tony Campos over the rights to the use of Static-X name.
Static-X’s album, Wisconsin Death Trip, went platinum and the band released five additional albums.
Static also had a solo career and planned on a new record that was slated to hit store shelves in 2015.
Tributes began pouring in for Wayne Static from friends in the music business.
KORN frontman Jonathan Davis wrote, “Rest in peace, Wayne. I’m speechless right now. I’m losing to many of my friends. I’ll see you on the other side, brother.”
Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach stated, “RIP Wayne…. This is so sad. Too many musicians are dying from overdoses. I’m serious, addiction is real and takes fools out. No one is invincible. So glad I live a sober life today. The number of friends that I have lost to addiction is crazy. If you are struggling witn addiction, get some help before it’s too late. I know drugs and partying are part of the ‘rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle,’ but damn, how many more gotta die??? Fu*k the lifestyle, I want life!!!! See you on the other side, Wayne….”
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH drummer Jeremy Spencer tweeted, “What a shame. R.I.P. Wayne Static.”
Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares wrote, “He’s a legend, a great guy and songwriter. It sucks to lose a friend to something that you wish you could’ve helped him for. R.I.P. Wayne Static.”
David Ellefson of Megadeth said, “This is just horribly sad news. I have such great memories of our tours together over the years. Wayne was truly an originator, innovator and milestone contributor to metal music. My condolences to the STATIC-X organization and family.”
David Draiman of Disturbed wrote, “Goodbye old friend.”
Micah Electric, drummer for industrial rockers 9ELECTRIC, posted on Facebook, “My friend Wayne Static has passed away. So glad to have known him, recorded with him, toured with him, partied with him and had MANY real conversations with him. He was a good soul who chose the wrong path. He will be missed.”
Wayne is reportedly survived by his wife, former porn star Tera Wray Static.

Update! Posts from Static’s friends sparked speculation the rocker had suffered a setback in his sobriety. His representative said that is not the case.
Nancy B. Sayle claims that Wayne hadn’t touched drugs in five years and had died in his sleep at his U.S. home.
Of course, the actual cause of death won’t be revealed until the autopsy.
