This is non-celebrity, but just an awesome story.
A 73-year-old Kentucky man named James Wathen was in bad shape, not wanting to eat and barely able to speak. He told someone at the hospital he missed his dog “Bubba”.
The elderly man hadn’t seen his little Chihuahua since paramedics took him to the hospital weeks before.
Nurses went on a search to try and locate his beloved, one-eyed Chihuahua. They finally tracked him down to a foster family through a local animal shelter.
James wasn’t the only one sad and not feeling well. His dog Bubba had also stopped eating and wasn’t acting well.
The little dog was brought in to visit Wathen over the weekend and you could just see the man liven up almost instantly.
Little Bubba visited his owner again on Tuesday and both have shown remarkable improvement.
See their adorable reunion:
Shelter president Mary-Ann Smyth said of Mr. Wathen, “He’s done a complete turnaround. He’s speaking, he’s sitting up, he’s eating. He doesn’t look like the same guy. And the dog is eating and doing better now, too.”
A shelter employee wrote about the sweet reunion, “When Bubba was handed to James he started to cry and then Bubba started to snuggle James and it makes you realize that animals are not just pets they are loved ones”.
James Wathen and Bubba will be able to regularly visit. The hospital is implementing a pet visitation policy for similar situations.
What a great story!
