Joe and Teresa Gudice sentencing day

Teresa Giudice has spoken out for the first time since she and her husband Joe were sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to multiple fraud charges.

The “Real Housewives Of New Jersey” star sat down with Andy Cohen for Monday evening’s episode of Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live”.

Teresa revealed her surprise at how things played out in court last week, saying, “I was shocked. I mean, it was unexpected”.

She and Joe pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and bankruptcy fraud on Thursday in a Newark, New Jersey courthouse.

Teresa, who has four daughters with Joe aged 13 to five, will begin her 15-month sentence in federal prison on January 5.

Joe was sentenced to 41 months in prison that he will serve after Teresa completes her sentence, making sure one of them is with their children while the other is away.

The couple also will serve two years of probation after their release and must pay more than $400,000 in restitution.

Cohen asked Teresa and Joe what their ‘biggest fear’ was about going to prison, among other pressing questions.

When Cohen asked what her 13-year-old daughter Gia said to her, Teresa replied, “She said, ‘Mommy, don’t worry about it. I’ll be there. I’ll help daddy with the girls. It will help prepare me for when I’m a mom.”‘ It broke my heart when she said that.”
