George Clooney is a bachelor no more, after getting married to Amal Alamuddin in Venice today.
The hunky actor’s rep confirmed the couple had tied the knot, which was believed to have been held at sunset on Saturday.
Clooney’s rep said in a statement, “George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin were married today in a private ceremony in Venice, Italy”.
The wedding of the British human rights lawyer Amal and the Hollywood actor was officiated by their good friend and the former mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni.
Crowds of people lined Venice’s Grand Canal to cheer on George and his A-list guests, who traveled in style to the Aman hotel in vintage water taxis.
George entertained the crowds on the way to his wedding, pulling a series of funny expressions as he headed to meet his bride-to-be.
The 53-year-old actor was accompanied by his father Nick as he made the 15-minute journey from the Cipriani hotel to the ceremony.
The couple requested that guests do not bring mobile phones in a bid to prevent unauthorized pictures being leaked from the event.
Clooney and Alamuddin’s wedding guests included their family members and many celebrity friends. U2 singer Bono, actor Matt Damon, Cindy Crawfrod and husband Randy Gerber, actress Emily Blunt and her husband John Krasinski, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and Bill Murray were among their famous wedding guests.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were also expected to attend the high profile ceremony.
There have been reports that Rande Gerber would be Clooney’s best man, while others claim his best man would be Brad Pitt.
Vogue reportedly secured the rights to publish the photos of the nuptials, which is rumored to be brought in around $1 million.
George was said to be wearing an Armani suit, while Alamuddin was reportedly wearing an Alexander McQueen wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton. The name may sound familiar because Burton is the woman that designed Kate Middleton’s wedding gown.
George and Amal held a late dinner for their wedding guests after the nuptials, with guests feasting on lobster, lemon risotto, and fried polenta with mushrooms.
George and Amal enjoyed a rehearsal dinner last night, where Amal looked stunning an an Alexander McQueen high-low red gown.
