Chelsea Handler lands new talk show

Chelsea Handler announced in March that she’d be departing her talk show on E! after eight years on the air.

Now the comedian has joined forces with Netflix for a new talk show!

After months of negotiations and speculation, the streaming service has announced a deal with Chelsea that includes a talk show, which is set to launch in 2016.

The online TV network said it will update the format of her current E! talk show, “Chelsea Lately”, but retain the comedic focus on entertainment and cultural issues.

She will be stepping down from “Chelsea Lately” on August 26.

Handler’s Netflix show will feature her unfiltered opinions on topics of the day as well as guest interviews.  We’re guessing it will be pretty wild if Chelsea is uncensored!

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos reveals, “The Internet has disrupted many of the conventions of traditional television and together with Chelsea Handler, Netflix is looking forward to reimagining the late night talk show for the on-demand generation, starting with the late night part….”

Chelsea Handler let her true feelings about E! be known during her radio interview with Howard Stern Show in March. She claims that E! is a “sad, sad place to live” and a “failure”.

Chelsea Handler coming to Netflix

Chelsea spoke about her new gig, saying, “If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested. I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move.  I’m more excited than I’ve been in awhile, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages. No offense to the Shahs Of Sunset”.

The Netflix deal with Handler will begin with a standup performance premiering on October 10. She will also create four specials debuting in 2015.
