We all have things in our lives we’d rather not share with the entire world and celebrities are no different. But sadly, Hollywood stars choose to live in the spotlight so their rather embarrassing antics are rarely kept secret.
Let’s check out some crazy and interesting tidbits we dug up on a few celebrities.
British comedian Ricky Gervais used to be in a new wave band called “Seona Dancing”, where he sounds very similar to David Bowie.
Here’s Ricky in their video for “Bitter Heart”:
Matthew Broderick, who most of us remember as the star of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”,headed off on vacation in Northern Ireland with his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Grey. Grey actually played his bratty sister in the movie.
In 1987, Broderick drove a rented BMW into the wrong lane on a country road and smashed head-on into a car, killing 30-year-old Anna Gallagher and her 63-year-old mother Margaret Doherty. Both women died instantly.
Broderick spent four weeks in a Belfast hospital with a fractured leg and ribs, collapsed lung and concussion. Jennifer Grey suffered severe whiplash.
Broderick told authorities he had no recollection of the crash and did not know why he was in the wrong lane. “I don’t remember the day. I don’t remember even getting up in the morning. I don’t remember making my bed. What I first remember is waking up in the hospital, with a very strange feeling going on in my leg,” he said at the time.
Broderick was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and faced a prison term of up to five years. He was later convicted of the lesser charge of careless driving and fined $175. The victims’ family called the case “a travesty of justice.”
That would be a horrible thing to live with, knowing you killed someone accidentally. The fatal car wreck occurred shortly before Grey’s film “Dirty Dancing” was released.
Billy Joel tried to commit suicide by drinking furniture polish, because of his affair with the wife of his drummer Jon Small.
The singer battled depression and alcoholism for years and was actually rushed to the hospital by the drummer he betrayed.
Joel was submitted to a psychiatric ward and put on suicide watch. He left a suicidal note, which later became the lyrics to his song “Tomorrow is Today”.
He told Details magazine the gory details, admitting, “I was suicidal…. I just figured the world didn’t need another failed musician. You take yourself so seriously – you’ve got your head so far up your ass you can’t see straight. I was just lookin’ for poison. I looked in my mother’s closet and there was bleach, and it had the skull and crossbones, and then there was furniture polish. At the time I thought, ‘Well, the furniture polish will probably taste better than the bleach, so I’ll drink the furniture polish.’ All I ended up doing was farting furniture polish for a couple of days and polishing my mother’s chairs.”
Vin has shown off his dancing skills to fans previously, celebrating his film “Riddick” topping the DVD sales charts. But long before this dance, Diesel starred in a break dancing instructional video in 1984 called “Breakin in the USA”.
Here’s a little sample of Crowe doing his best Elvis-type singing:
George Clooney may be a suave actor who is newly engaged, but the actor played a rather embarrassing role in his cousin’s film “The Harvest” in 1992. Gorgeous George played the role of a lip syncing transvestite. We’d love to locate the video, but he was reportedly lip-synching to Belinda Carlisle’s song “Heaven is a Place On Earth”.
George looks much better as a man, but nice gold lame outfit!
