Columbus Short has announced he is leaving his hit ABC series “Scandal”.
The 37-year-old actor confirmed that he is leaving the show in his statement, but there are reports he was fired over the domestic violence allegations by his wife.
His wife Tuere Tanee McCall was granted a restraining order against Short after she claims he threatened to kill her and pulled a knife on her.
McCall filed for divorce after the scary incident.
Columbus Short’s rep gave an official statement, confirming he’s leaving the show after three years.
Short stated, “At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today. I would like to first thank [creator] Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you GLADIATORS, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series. I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful”.
Short’s wife had previously filed for divorce from her husband in September, but she changed her mind earlier this year and dismissed the petition.
Columbus pleaded not guilty to physically attacking Tanee on February 14 at his Woodland Hills home.
The legal documents from the case state, “Short and his wife started arguing and it got physical. Short’s kids – a two-year-old and 10-year-old – were watching.”
Columbus also has a son from his first marriage to Brandi Short which ended in 2003.
The actor was hit with a restraining order after he was accused of trying to kill his wife on April 7 during a crazy argument. He poured wine over her head while drunk and grabbed a knife. He pinned her to the couch and began to choke her, saying he would stab her in the leg if she “lied” about men he thought she might be having sex with.
Tanee also claimed Columbus put a knife against her throat and threatened to kill her after she denied his cheating allegations.
The 31-year-old actor then slashed Tanee’s tire when she fled their home.
That sucks that he lost not only his wife, but now his job as a result of drinking and being violent.
