Paul Walker died suddenly and tragically in a car crash on November 30, 2013 at the age of 40.
Producers of the “Fast & Furious” films were halfway through filming their seventh installment and were unsure how to deal with the loss of the actor. Walker’s younger brothers will now fill in for Paul.
The production on the movie went on indefinite hiatus as they scrambled to come up with a suitable solution that would satisfy fans as well as honor Paul Walker.
Filming was recently resumed after it was decided that Paul would have wanted to see the project completed.
Producers released a statement today confirming that Walker’s younger brothers – Cody, 25, and Caleb, 36, will play vital roles in the seventh movie.
Here’s a cute photo of Paul with his younger brothers as a child.
In a statement released on the film’s Facebook page, fans were introduced to the newest members of the “Fast & Furious” family.
The statement reads, “The FAST & FURIOUS saga is about family. The characters are connected by the bond of family, and it is how all of us who have worked together for more than thirteen years feel about each other. It certainly defines how we feel about our fans.
“Our family experienced an unthinkable shock in November. We had to take time to grieve Paul, the brother we love and lost, and to figure out if we should move on with our film.”
The statement said everyone came to the conclusion that the only choice was to continue filming the movie. They said, “We believe our fans want that, and we believe Paul would want that too”.
Paul Walker had already completed his dramatic scenes and most of his action, but his younger brothers have been brought in to “fill in small gaps left in production”.
The statement concluded by saying, “We have resumed shooting and now welcome Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, into our FAST family. Caleb and Cody are helping us complete some remaining action for their brother and fill in small gaps left in production. Having them on set has made us all feel that Paul is with us too.
“We are just under a year away from the release of FAST & FURIOUS 7, and this film is the most important we’ve ever done together,’ the statement concludes. ‘It will allow the character of Brian O’Conner to live on and let us celebrate Paul in his most defining role”.
The movie is set to hit theaters on April 10, 2015.
