DJ Frankie Knuckles dead at 59

DJ Frankie Knuckles passed away at the age of 59, due to complications with diabetes.

Celebrities and friends revealed the sad news about the popular house music DJ, taking to social media to pay tribute.

Chicago DJ Vince Lawrence took to Facebook to share the sad news.

He writes, “A legend has fallen. All hail Frankie Knuckles an inspiration to us all. 30 years ago on April Fools Marvin was taken away & i didn’t believe it…now this horrible news. #RIPFrankieKnuckles”.

Questlove wrote after hearing of Frankie’s passing, “Jesus man. Frankie Knuckles was so under-appreciated. he was the dj that dj’s aspired to be. true dance pioneer.”

David Morales adds, “I am devastated to write that my dear friend Frankie Knuckles has passed away today. Can’t write anymore than this at the moment. I’m sorry.”

Trance music DJ Markus Schulz also took part in the pouring tribute, writing, “RIP Frankie Knuckles. One of the most beautiful human beings to have ever graced this earth. I’ll miss that smile.”

Frankie was born in the Bronx, New York in 1955, becoming a DJ in the early 1970s. The term “house” music is believed to be originated from his popular music performance in a nightclub called The Warehouse in Chicago.

Knuckles developed diabetes in the mid-2000s having already contracted the bone disease osteomyelitis after breaking several metatarsals in his right foot while snowboarding in Switzerlandin 2003.

He continued to DJ, even though his doctor’s advised him to quit, later having his foot amputated in 2008.

The DJ stated in 2011, “When I saw it was gone I had a good cry, but when I woke up the next morning I felt 1,000% better. I didn’t realize how much pain I’d been in until it was gone. It was like all of a sudden the sun came out.”
