But Clooney’s own mother and his fiancee Amal Alamuddin’s law firm have now confirmed the happy news!
George Clooney’s mother Nina Clooney confirmed the shocking engagement news, stating, “You can say I’m extremely happy, Amal’s a lovely girl.”
Nina met British barrister (lawyner) Amal, 36, on various occasions and stated, “I like her very much”.
Nina, 74, and her veteran broadcaster husband Nick, 80, live in Kentucky. They accompanied their 52-year-old actor son and Amal to a private White House screening of “The Monuments Men” with President Obama in February.
Clooney reportedly proposed recently after the couple enjoyed a series of exotic holidays around the world during a seven-month romance.
Rumors of the hunky actor’s engagement to 36-year-old Alamuddin began circulating late last week after the British lawyer was spotted with a “huge diamond ring”.
George and Amal were also dining at Nobu in Malibu, California with Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber. Eyewitnesses saw Amal show her ring to Cindy.
A London law firm also confirmed the engagement today.
The firm said in a statement, “The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married”.
Clooney, 52, and Alamuddin, 36, have been reported as dating since last October, but have not issued any personal confirmation of the engagement.
