The devastated Rolling Stones frontman admits, “I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way”.
Jagger wrote on his website on Tuesday in a post titled L’Wren, “We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her”.
The online message came almost 24 hours after the tragic news that his girlfriend of almost 13 years had hung herself in her Manhattan apartment.
Scott was found dead by her assistant Monday morning when she texted her assistant Brittany Penebre to “come by” at around 8:30 a.m. She arrived to find L’Wren’s body and called 911.
Jagger was in Australia on tour with the Rolling Stones when Scott’s body was found in Chelsea on Monday morning.
The band has cancelled their scheduled show in Perth.
The 70-year-old rocker’s rep said yesterday that Mick was “completely shocked and devastated”.
In an interview with the New York Daily News, L’Wren Scott’s former housekeeper Lupe Montufar said she was unable to explain the designer’s death.
Lupe revealed, “She would tell me she wanted to get married and have a family, but she didn’t want to get her hopes up or say it out loud to Mick. She didn’t want to pressure him. She knew there were other women, but she accepted it to be with him.”
The fashion designer was $6 million in debt to her creditors when she died and was distraught over her failing business.
One source revealed L’Wren had been avoiding phone calls recently. The friend said, “They’ve known that something was going on, and it’s been going on for at least a week”.
This is just so sad. A person can appear to have it all, but you never know what demons they may be battling.
