Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy has cited “unfair treatment” by network bosses as the reason she didn’t show up at the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday night.
McCurdy has been on the network for the past seven years, previously on “iCarly” and currently on “Sam & Cat” alongside Ariana Grande.
The actress was noticeably absent as her co-star Ariana Grande helped honor the show’s creator, Dan Schneider, with the Lifetime Achievement award at award ceremony. Many fans wondered why one of their most popular stars wasn’t in attendance.
McCurdy took to Twitter.com later that night to explain to her fans why she decided to miss the show, writing, “A lot of you guys are asking why I didn’t attend the Kcas (Kids’ Choice Awards). I wish I could explain everything as thoroughly as I would like to, but unfortunately a simpler explanation is all I can write.”
She continued, “I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation… and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is Always the most important thing.
“I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, MCCurdians (her fans) and Arianators (Grande’s fans) alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first. If you have done that, thank you.”
A few fans were curious if she bailed on the event because of the racy lingerie photos she had leaked earlier this month.
She addressed the question, stating, “My previous tweet has nothing to do with pics leaked… It has to do with how nickelodeon treated me. That’s all. Thanks for the love.”
Jennette McCurdy’s show “Sam & Cat” won Favorite TV Show at the Kids Choice Awards. She was also nominated for Favorite TV Actress, but lost out to her co-star, Ariana Grande.
