Most of us assume many of today’s biggest stars grew up in a large city, but some of the biggest celebrities actually hail from small towns.
Small town life…but big-city dreams! Let’s check them out!
The “Hunger Games” actor, who most of you may know as Peeta, actually grew up in Union, Kentucky. Who would guess he was a southern boy, being brought up in a city with a population of less than 5,000.
Jessica Biel, the wife of Justin Timberlake, began her career with the television series “7th Heaven”. Biel was raised in the small town of Ely, Minnesota. The town’s population is around 3,500.
Popular country star Miranda Lambert may be living the life of luxury now, but she didn’t get that country twang from New York! Miranda was born in Longview, Texas, but was raised in tiny Lindale, Texas. The popular was around 5,000. She paid homage to her small town roots in her song “Famous in a Small Town”.
“Two and a Half Men” star Ashton Kutcher, who is expecting his first child with fiance Mila Kunis, was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family later moved to Tiffin, Iowa (population 1000) where Ashton went to the local university and worked in a General Mills factory. He was discovered by a talent agent and the rest is history!
Singer Alecia Moore, most known as Pink, grew up in a small town called Doylestown in Pennsylvania. The population was around 8,000 but she began singing at age 14 in clubs in Philadelphia before finding fame.
The “Stop-Loss” actor grew up in rather humble beginnings in New Castle, Delaware. His mother Susan ran a daycare center from their home. The population is around 5,000. He got his start as a gay teen on a soap opera and went on to marry and later divorce Reese Witherspoon.
Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas, the youngest of three boys. Matthew attended high school in Longview, Texas, and was voted most handsome in the Longview Lobo yearbook! No surprise here! Uvalde’s population is around 15,000.

You don’t really think of Sarah Jessica Parker and think of her as a small-town girl. But that’s how she grew up! The “Sex and the City” star hails from Nelsonville, Ohio. The actress was one of eight children and moved to New York as a child to star in “Annie” on Broadway. Nelsonville’s little town has around 5,000 people.
You can take the girl out of the country, but not the country out of the girl. Brit Brit grew up in Kentwood, Louisiana with a population of around 2,300. She moved with her mother and sister to New York to pursue her dreams.
Ellen DeGeneres being from a small town surprised us a little. She seems more like a city girl. But, Ellen was born in Metairie, Louisiana! She grew up in Atlanta, Texas (population 5,745) and attended the University of New Orleans as a communication major. DeGeneres dropped out after one semester of college, turning to odd jobs and stand-up comedy. The rest is history!
Carrie Underwood was a farm girl in Checotah, Oklahoma, with a populatio nof around 3,500 people, before trying out for “American Idol” in 2004. The country cutie won the competition and is now a huge star. Underwood even wrote a song called “I Ain’t in Checotah Anymore”.
