David Cassidy, who is known for his role as Keith Partridge in the television series “The Partridge Family”, was ordered by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge to enroll in a 90-day live-in rehab facility for alcohol abuse.
The 63-year-old singer received the sentence for his January DUI arrest, which is his third since 2010.
Cassidy was lucky to escape jail time, but was given five years probation.
A representative for David Cassidy said the singer had been enrolled in an inpatient rehab facility at the time of his sentencing and was given credit for 102 days served.
Cassidy will transition early next month into a monitored outpatient program with a sober coach. His rep stated, “David is very committed to his sobriety”.
The former child star pleaded no contest on Monday to the DUI charge as part of the plea agreement and he must complete a nine-month alcohol program.
He was also taken into custody in Schodack, New York in August 2013 and charged with a felony count of driving under the influence.
The DUI charge was a felony because Cassidy had a 2011 DUI conviction in his home state of Florida.
Cassidy’s wife Sue filed for divorce in February after 23 years of marriage. They have a 23-year-old son Beau together.
The singer also has a 27-year-old daughter Katie Cassidy from a previous relationship.
Hopefully he can get his drinking under control before he ends up killing an innocent person.
