Chelsea Handler plans to leave her talk show on E! news when her contract expires at the end of the year, after being on “Chelsea Lately” for eight years.
Her manager, Irving Azoff, confirms her departure and is helping her navigate her other options for “life after E!”.
Handler has made it known that she wasn’t happy with E!
Chelsea called the network a “sad, sad place to live” on The Howard Stern Sirius show, adding, “They don’t know what they’re doing. They have no ideas. It’s a failure.”
Her manager stated, “Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires. She hired me to figure out her life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.”
An E! spokesperson said, “Chelsea has nine months left on her contract and E! will not comment on the future of Chelsea Lately at this time.”
Handler has her new book “Uganda Be Kidding Me” at number one on the New York Times best-seller list. She is also touring more than 30 dates overseas, and will be filming her first stand-up special to air on cable in October.
Chelsea Handler was making a whopping $9 million a year with around 572,000 a night, down from 839,000 in 2010.
The late-night host’s comments about her current network won’t likely go over well with potential networks.
One insider said, “When you see talent go after a network like that, you think one day it could be me”.
