Julia Roberts has been through the wringer lately. Her half-sister recently committed suicide and wrote a note blaming the actress.
Now Julia’s mother, Betty Lou Motes, has been diagnosed with lung cancer.
The actress has been dealing with the scary news of her mother’s cancer, after doctors found a tumor on Betty’s lung during a routine MRI in November.
Betty has a history of medical issues and suffered a heart attack and underwent angioplasty surgery in 2009.
Julia’s 80-year-old mother is said to have undergone treatment for back pain around the time of her recent diagnosis.
A source said, “Everyone was frantic because Betty has a history of smoking and emphysema”.
Julia Roberts, 46, has moved her mother in to her Malibu mansion.
An insider said, “She was already reeling from her mom’s cancer crisis. Now, she’s been deeply hurt and stung by all the criticism after Nancy’s death and feels she doesn’t deserve it. Julia insists that Nancy’s death was not a suicide.
Julia Roberts has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best supporting actress in “August: Osage County”. The Oscars will be held on March 2, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.
