But now, 30-year-old Zimmerman will compete in a boxing match with rapper DMX. Anyone else think this is a bad idea?
Believe it or not, the boxing match was actually George Zimmerman’s idea. You’d think he’d want to lay low after all the court drama and people unhappy with the trial’s verdict. He apparently wants to keep his 15 minutes of “infamy” going.
Boxing promoter Damon Feldman confirmed the fight and said DMX was selected out of more than 15,000 applicants. The 43-year-old rapper is ready and said he plans to break every rule to “make sure I f**k him right up”.
DMX also said he plans to pee in Zimmerman’s face if he wins. Now that we’d like to see!
The boxing match will last for three rounds. The date, time, and location will be announced next Wednesday during a press conference.
Feldman said all the proceeds from the boxing match will go to charity.
Zimmerman has reportedly been in boxing training for months in preparation for the fight.
George Zimmerman said of the fight, “It was my idea. Prior to the incident I was actually going to the gym for weight loss and doing boxing-type training for weight loss and a mutual friend put me in contact with Damon and provided me with an opportunity and motivation to get back in shape and continue with my weight loss goals and also be able to help a charity out.
“Boxing isn’t new to me. It’s something I had picked up well before the incident and it’s something that I liked, I enjoyed, and I kept up with it and I was able to lose a tremendous amount of weight and get a healthy lifestyle. So it’s not a new hobby, it’s something I have been doing and wanting to pursue to maintain a healthy lifestyle”.
Zimmerman was found not guilty of all charges against him when he shot the teen during a fight in February 2012 in a gated Florida community. George claims he shot and killed Martin in self defense.
The case was an emotional one for Trayvon Martin’s family and Zimmerman, resulting in demonstrations after George’s acquittal in 2013.
We have a bad feeling this boxing match will reopen those wounds over Trayvon’s death. Not matter whose side you were on, it’s still a tragedy.
