KTLA news anchor Sam Rubin was doing an interview with Samuel L. Jackson, who was promoting “Robocop” when he got Jackson confused with another black actor.
Jackson didn’t let him off the hook for the mistake and had a little fun playfully ripping Rubin on the air, saying “We don’t all look alike!”
On KTLA this morning, Sam Rubin asked Jackson right off the bat about his “recent Super Bowl commercial”.
Jackson replied, “What Super Bowl commercial?”, before realizing the news anchor was confusing him with Laurence Fishburne.
The “Snakes on a Plane” star then said, “you see, you’re as crazy as the people on Twitter. I’m not Laurence Fishburne!”
Sam Rubin laughs, clearly uncomfortable with making the mistake, repeating, “that’s my fault, I know that, my mistake”.
But Jackson continues, “We don’t all look alike! We may all be black and famous but we don’t all look alike.”
The actor then slams Rubin for not doing his research, asking, “You’re the entertainment reporter? You’re the entertainment reporter for this station and you don’t know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne?”
He then quips, “There must be a very short line for your job.” Ouch!
Rubin attempts to move on by talking about the actor’s film “Robocop”, but Samuel L. Jackson is still having fun at his expense.
Jackson said, “Oh hell no… There’s more than one black guy doing commercials. I’m the ‘‘What’s in your wallet?’ black guy. [Fishburne’s] the car black guy. Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy. You only hear his voice though, so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne.”
Jackson ended his playful rant by saying, “I’ve actually never done a McDonald’s or Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial. I know that’s surprising. And I’m the only black guy in Robocop that’s not a criminal.”
We’re betting the poor entertainment reporter will be doing his research from now on. A little cringe-worthy to watch, yet entertaining!
