Country singer Trace Adkins has entered rehab to treat his alcoholism after a drunken brawl with an impersonator on a cruise ship.
The 52-year-old was taking part in a Country Cruising cruise when he fell off the wagon after being sober for 12 years.
Adkins’ rep issued a statement saying, “Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism,” his rep told The News. “As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family’s privacy will be respected.”
Trace was scheduled to perform on an eight-day cruise from Miami via Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico that kicked off January 12. The hunky 6’6 singer was in the bar when something happened between him and his impersonator that was singing karaoke.
The “Celebrity Apprentice” winner had met the Trace lookalike, whose name is Mike, previously in 2007.
Trace even seemed shocked by the uncanny resemblance.
After the brawl, Trace jumped ship in Jamaica and then headed to rehab.
Trace Adkins has been open about his battle with alcoholism. He previously checked into treatment on Christmas 2002 after getting into a tractor accident.
He told CMT in 2003, “The program was an extremely positive experience for me. This is something I needed to do for myself, my family and my career. I feel the best I’ve felt in years, both physically and mentally.”
We’re not certain what went down between Trace and the impersonator, but maybe the guy “crossed the line”.
