Justin Bieber’s DUI and driving without a valid license charges after his arrest for allegedly drag racing in Miami beach last week, appear to have been dropped.
The 19-year-old singer will now face just one misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence, based on present records at Miami-Dade County Court Clerks website. Hold up! Authorities reveal charges NOT dropped!
Today, Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office spokesman Ed Griffith spoke out on the news Bieber’s charges had been dropped to just one charge of resisting arrest.
Griffith stated, “”Contrary to erroneous media reports, no charges have been dropped because until arraignment (the actual filing of charges in criminal court) no charges have been filed. Poorly defined readings of the Court Clerk’s website will lead to erroneous reports, such as this one. Expect no Bieber legal activity until the arraignment.”
It’s believed the traffic cases will be consolidated with the criminal case at some point soon.
The “Baby” singer was originally charged with driving under the influence, driving with an expired license, and resisting arrest without violence on Thursday, January 23, after Miami Beach police arrested Bieber and his friend Khalil.
The dropped charges come after the inconsistencies on the police report and the video of the alleged drag-race were obtained.
Bieber’s blood-alcohol level in two Breathalyzer tests taken at Miami Beach Police station was estimated at 0.014 and 0.011. Both values are below the general 0.08 legal limit and Florida’s 0.02 limit for a person underage.
It’s still illegal for him to drink, but he wasn’t legally drunk.
Officer Medina stated in his report, “I immediately smelled an odor of alcohol em[a] nating [sic] from the driver’s breath”.
Miami police confirmed those percentages Friday, but CNN notes lab results from other tests taken will be released within the next two to three weeks and may reveal the teen singer was intoxicated from marijuana at the time of his arrest.
It’s unclear how those results will impact the case if the DUI and expired license charges have been dropped.
Justin Bieber’s been enjoying a carefree vacation in Panama with his new chick, Chantel Jeffries. But those close to him jetted to see him to talks some sense into the teen singer.
