Alison Sweeney has played the role of Samantha Brady on the NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives” for 21 years.
But the 37-year-old actress revealed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that she’ll be leaving the show.
The actress shared the emotional news on “Ellen”, which will air on Tuesday.
Alison stated, “I’m celebrating my 21st year and I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show so…’.
Alison, who joined the soap opera she was just 16, has been busy hosting “Biggest Loser” and doing “Days of Our Lives”.
Sweeney said, “I’ve never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time. I mean it’s awesome. I love Sami, I love Salem, I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans, I love everything about it.”
Ellen asked what had made her decide to leave now, with Alison replying, “I just have, you know, worked so much and my daughter just turned five and my son is nine and I just want to be with them and enjoy my last year.”
The actress has been married to California Highway Patrolman David Sanov since 2008. They have two children, Ben and Martha.
Alison Sweeney said she’ll stay on the show until the end of the year, but has no clue what will happen to her character.
She joked, “It would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending, but then I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted like Breaking Bad ending. She’s caused a lot of people a lot of problems.’
Ellen joked, “That would be very hilarious if you became a meth dealer and then people come after you or something.”
The actress said she’s “really just excited to be with my kids and be with my husband and, I don’t know, have fun.”
