Katy Perry & John Mayer on Ellen

Katy Perry appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ show, where she opened up about turning her dark times into something positive with her new album “Prism”.

Katy was later joined by her boyfriend John Mayer, who talked about their Christmas plans together.

She endured a painful split from Russell Brand in 2011 after just 14 months of marriage.

Perry revealed it left her in “the darkest place”, but she channeled her grief into her new album.

The 29-year-old singer has gone on to find love again with singer John Mayer, 36, and things between the couple are so serious that they are planning to spend Christmas together.

Katy told Ellen of her new album, “Well I mean the song talks about the darkest place I was in, but then it also talks about how I found my strength again and I think when something negative happens in your life you have a chance an opportunity to go two different ways. You either go positive and make something and create something beautiful from it or you go deep, dark into a bad place which is hard to get out of. And I chose to go positive. I chose to kind of do a lot of self-reflection and see what I could take responsibility for. You know, pump up the mediation pump up the therapy, pump up the vitamins and that really served me well and it influenced all these songs really fantastically, very positively”.

Katy talked about her relationship with John Mayer after he joined the ladies for a chat.

Katy revealed a shared interest in music is one of the most important facets of their relationship, explaining, “You know, we have music as an understanding and love between each other and we connect and you know it’s like he understands what I do because he does the same thing. And so after a long day if it’s been tough I don’t really have to go into it he just gets it. You know, so it’s nice with that understanding.”

Katy later performed her beautiful song “Unconditionally”:
