Katy Perry and John Mayer have tried to keep their relationship under the radar, but they are putting it out for the world to see now!
The beautiful couple sat down for their first-ever interview together on “Good Morning America”, discussing their romance.
John and Katy, who have been dating off and on since 2012, revealed they had a traditional date with dinner on their first date. Katy said, “just like a regular couple”.
Katy, 29 and 36-year-old John look very happy and relaxed together, but Katy admitted during their GMA interview that it wasn’t always easy.
She said, “Relationships are kind of like riding a bull. You hang on for dear life. Sometimes you get a little buck here and there and sometimes you get things thrown at you but you get back on.”
The couple appeared together to premiere the video for their duet “Who You Love”, which is simply beautiful.
John said of his girlfriend, “Katy is a superstar for a reason. That’s the thing about working with somebody you love. You get to see them. I had to [make] a video in order to get to see my girlfriend.”
The couple seemed a bit nervous doing their first public appearance together, with a self-conscious John admitting, “We don’t quite know what kind of body language we’re supposed to be exhibiting. You get too close it’s a little too touchy feely and you get too far away and people say ‘I don’t see chemistry'”.
He said, “‘I had this little chorus for years and it was, “You love who you love,” and I thought that was always going to be a great thing someday. A song that people could hear and feel that sort of permission. The producer heard it and said why don’t you get Katy to do it and my very first thought was you can’t do that and then the more I thought about just the music part of it, it made perfect sense, even if I didn’t know Katy, it would have made perfect sense. I went in the other room [and] called her phone.”
John will complete his latest tour on Tuesday and revealed he is happy to be back at work after having an operation to remove growths on his vocal chords.
Mayer revealed, “It’s been really great. It’s not like I woke up one day and had the whole range of my voice back. I think I’m singing better and better each night. And it’s taught me to appreciate the voice as an instrument.”
