“Saturday Night Live” treated fans to a very special Christmas show with former alum Jimmy Fallon!
Jimmy Fallon began his monologue by stating, “The past year was a great one for me. I had a little baby girl. But some other really cool news – starting February I’m going to be the new host of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
He then explained he was going to do what should have been a star-studded version of “Joy To The World”.
Fallon said, “Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of my musical idols so i asked them to be here tonight. I want to sing with three of my friends Mr David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Sir Paul McCartney. Unfortunately they cant be here. Traffic is tough at this time and all of them are currently stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel. But I’m a professional, so the song must go on”.
Fallon then showed off his impersonations skills by performing Christmas carols as David Bowie, Bob Dylan, and Paul McCartney. But as he started a cringe-worthy impersonation of McCartney, he walked out onto the stage as the crowd cheered.
Jimmy said, “Paul I thought you were stuck in traffic?” McCartney replied, “I was but then I took a city bike. Am I too late to sing a song?”
They started their duet of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” there was a helium effect in the Beatle’s voice, but Fallon explained it was intended for Bob Dylan.
Fallon’s pal Justin Timberlake reprised their previous festive sketch, with JT playing a Christmas wrapper rapper competing with Aidy Bryant.
Fallon joined him in an environmentally friendly, gift bag.
In between rapping, Fallon explained, “We are professional wrappers, we offer a wide range of services from traditional gift wrap which is tasteful to gift bags which are not wasteful.”
Bryant’s patience with the guys wore than and he told her not to start a “wrap war”. He said, “We should all work together, we’re all on the same team. I used to compete with doggy bag over here. But one day I needed a gift sack for a deck of playing cards I was giving my uncle. I had a deck that needed sacking.”
Fallon said, “So I sacked his deck.”
Bryant then said, “I’ve been divorced for seven years so I haven’t sacked a deck for a long time.”
Fallon and Timberlake also starred in a game show sketch, in which Timberlake played Fallon and Fallon played “Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons.
The hilarious duo did another installment of their popular skit “The Barry Gibb Talkshow”, which had two special celebrity guests. First up was Madonna, who took on the temperamental Jimmy Fallon’s version of the Bee Gees legend when he threw a tantrum.
It started on friendly terms when Barry asked her, “You’ve travelled all over the world, you’re an observer of human nature, Republican, Democrat, why can’t people get along?”
She replied, “In my experience politicians, it doesn’t matter which country you come from, as long as they don’t put their personal ideology above doing the right thing there will be unity. It’s simple.”
The angry host said, “You already answered the question woman. You think you can come on my show and say anything you want to me?”
And after a bit of back-and-forth arguing, he conceded, admitting, “She’s tamed me like a wild horse.”
The show then closed with a song featuring the real Barry Gibb, who showed the pair how it should be done with his trademark falsetto.
Fallon performed his rendition of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with his stage-five clinger girlfriend.
Justin Timberlake performed a couple of music numbers during the evening.
