Kelly Clarkson had previously been planning a wedding at her Nashville home with fiance Brandon Blackstock, but opted to axe those plans and just elope!
The singer said it will only be the couple, Brandon’s two children and a pastor there for their intimate ceremony.
The former “American Idol” winner says that the whole wedding planning process had been so overwhelming and they had a change of heart about the ceremony.
Kelly Clarkson said, “We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope.’ We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions. We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking.”
There were rumors the couple had scrapped wedding plans and that she was pregnant, something she denies on Twitter.
Kelly tweeted, “FYI…Brandon & I are getting married & no I am not pregnant. We are eloping for one reason only. We both want an intimate ceremony”.
Kelly explained that her busy schedule, including a campaign with insurance company State Farm to teach children about safe driving, also played a big part in their decision.
Clarkson explained, “Then honestly the planning – I have a Christmas record coming out. I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now. We have two kids who just started school. We’re going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and (Brandon)’s got one of the biggest artists (Blake Shelton) in country music. He’s flying everywhere.”
After deciding not to have the wedding, the couple sent out a gorgeous engagement photo and a message to their friends and family members.
She adds, Our whole life is a celebration. That’s what we kept laughing about. We don’t need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, “We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.”
Kelly Clarkson definitely has marriage on the mind, made obvious in her new music video for “Tie It Up”.
Kelly will officially become a stepmother to Brandon’s two children from his previous marriage.
She told Ryan Seacrest recently, “I have a 12-year-old and a six-year-old now… after being single for six years! We all live together and everything… It’s so different, but it’s perfect.”
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock announced their engagement in December 2012.
