Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s daughter, Willow Smith, is only 12-years-old and has caused controversy with her latest music video for “Summer Fling”.
Willow is shown hanging with older boys as she sings about having a summer love affair. Is this appropriate?
Willow Smith sings in the video, “It’s just a couple months but we do it anyway. Don’t really care what we do tonight. Good night kisses if the mood is right laying by the beach with you wishing this will never end”.
Willow also speaks in a British accent in the video (what’s up with that?), saying, “Thanks for the summer fling. It was nice”.
Willow is shown with much older looking guys and older teens as she jumps on the trampoline and into a pool as she cozies up with an older boy.
People have plenty to say about the music video.
One tweet from the Black Youth Project stated, “Smith’s new single, “Summer Fling”, has raised eyebrows due to its subject matter and accompanying video. A few op-eds have questioned the idea of a 12-year old having a summer fling, and whether or not the whole concept is too mature”.
Another twitter users writes, “Willow Smith has a tongue ring half her head shaved and is bisexual. She needs to go live with her Aunty and Uncle in Bel Air”.
Willow has already signed a lucrative record deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label.
The daughter of the Hollywood actors had a with “Whip My Hair”, but her success on the music charts has been short lived.
What do you think of this music video for “Summer Fling”. Is it way too mature for a pre-teen girl or are you fine with it?
