Former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland had to be rescued by Massachusetts Coasties on Friday when her boat ran into difficulty off the coast of Provincetown.
Rowland and her friends had boarded a private boat to go whale watching, but the vessel became “disoriented in the five-to-six-foot waves and fog that had rolled in”.
Rowland and her friends left Friday morning for the whale watching expedition when the ship got lost in the fog and 5-foot waves roughly 30 miles off shore.
After the boat didn’t return on time, the Coast Guard was notified.
The US Coast Guard was “able to triangulate their position” after learning they needed assistance. But things went from bad to worse when the boat broke down while being escorted back.
They had to be towed the remaining four miles and arrived back on land after 12 hours at sea.
Kelly Rowland was “tired and thankful,” with the employee adding, “They just wanted to get off the boat.”
Rowland, a judge on “X Factor”, had a chance to thank her rescuer the following evening.
Noah Santos, the captain of the tugboat, stated, “I ran into her the next day while I was out at dinner with my wife and she bought us dinner. She told me I was her hero.”
