John Mayer has responded to Taylor Swift’s “Dear John” song about him, by writing a song called “Paper Doll” that is obviously directed towards the singer.
Mayer’s lyrics address some of Taylor’s lyrics about their brief relationship that ended in 2010. Take a listen and see for yourself!
John Mayer has released his latest single entitled “Paper Doll”, which certainly appears to be a response to Taylor’s bitter song “Dear John”.
A few of the lyrics from “Paper Doll” are far from subtle.
The lyrics begin, “Here’s a dress of gold and blue/Sure was fun being good to you”. You might recall Swift referred to herself as the “girl in the dress [who] cried all the way home.”)
Mayer later sings, “Someone’s gonna paint you another sky”, which appears to be in response to Swift’s song where she sings, “You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain.”
It’s hilarious Mayer uses the “Prancercize” lady in the video, who reminds us of a future Taylor Swift.
John Mayer’s chorus states, “You’re like 22 girls in one/and none of them know what they’re running from.”
We’re certain you remember Taylor Swift released “22” as a single earlier this year.
Mayer seemed to be hurt by Taylor’s song bashing him, telling Rolling Stone magazine in June 2012 that he was “humiliated” by “Dear John”.
He said, “It made me feel terrible. Because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.
I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower? I will say as a songwriter that I think it’s kind of cheap songwriting. I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bulls**t.
