Good Charlotte frontman and “The Voice” Australia coach Joel Madden has been kicked out of his Sydney hotel after drugs were found in his room.
The 34-year-old rocker, who is married to Nicole Richie, had been staying at The Darling Hotel but was asked to leave after a maid found a small amount of weed in his room.
No charges have been brought against the singer, but he was asked to vacate the hotel where he had been staying for two months as he filmed “The Voice”.
Just 5g of marijuana were found by a maid cleaning his room on Sunday afternoon, who then alerted the authorities.
Joel Madden was present when the police searched his suite hours later, but they failed to press charges as the law states they have to warn the offender if the amount of cannabis is less than 15 grams.
The management asked him to leave the premises because The Darling Hotel has a strict policy against illegal substances.
A hotel official stated, “He was not afforded any special treatment and he’s moved out.”
A spokesman for Channel Nine, which broadcasts “The Voice” stated, “Channel Nine has investigated media reports regarding Joel Madden. He has advised us that while police did search his room and found a very small quantity of marijuana no charges are being laid. Police have also confirmed to Nine that no charges will be brought.”
Joel Madden expressed his support last year for legalizing marijuana, retweeting a post that said, “RT if you support Massachusetts’ medical marijuana ballot initiative.”
Madden is often joined in Australia by wife Nicole Richie and their children Harlow and Sparrow.
